Mutoh Debuts Toucan LT at ISA

Mutoh will introduce its Toucan LT at ISA 2005.

The new mid-range Toucan LT will comprise some of the features of two other Mutoh printers”?the Toucan and the Falcon II Outdoor. The company will make the Toucan LT available in two sizes”?64 and 87 in.”?and in eco- and solvent-ink versions. All versions feature six print heads and deliver resolutions up to 1440 dpi at a production speed of 220 sq ft/hr.

Other Toucan LT features include a heavy-duty media feed and take-up system to handle media weighing up to 225 lbs for unattended printing. Onyx RIP software is standard. An optional heater for drying is not necessary, Mutoh reports.

Prices for the Toucan LT begin at $33,995, including a Mutoh version of Onyx RIP software, installation, and a 1-yr on-site warranty.

Mutoh also reports that its XJet may also get an ISA introduction, although that had yet to be confirmed at this writing. A 54-in. solvent inkjet printer powered by six Spectra print heads, the XJet will offer print resolutions of up to 800 dpi and print speeds of 350 sq ft/hr, the company reports.

The XJet uses Mutoh solvent inks to produce images that are outdoor durable for up to 3 years without lamination. The printer also features an integrated heavy-duty media feed and take-up system, accommodating up to 55-in.-wide media and more than 200 lbs for unattended printing. Other features include variable-pressure rollers (for soft and rigid media), a 40GB hard disk drive, and PCI interface.

Mutoh has yet to make a decision on whether or not the XJet will be marketed into the US. Price also has yet to be determined, although Mutoh says it will be less than $50,000, including a starter set of inks, installation and on-site warranty.

The company also has partnered with PAT Technology Systems to distribute the Captivair filtration system, which captures and absorbs solvent-ink fumes and odors–creating a safer and cleaner work environment. The system is designed to fit the Toucan, Toucan LT, Toucan Hybrid, and the Falcon II Outdoor series of printers, and rolls into place over the work surface, allowing it to capture and absorb harmful fumes directly at the source of the printer. The Captivair's clear view hood allows for an unobstructed view of work in progress and can be rotated to ensure an unhindered production flow. The Captivair unit has a footprint of 25 x 25.2 x 16 in., is quiet, and has low energy consumption, Mutoh reports.
