WITH MOUNTAIN VIEWS, 63 parks, and 290 miles of bike and walking trails, nature is integral to the identity of Broomfield, Colorado’s residents. In 2023, city and county officials called upon local artists for mural designs representing the community’s beauty, collaboration, and civic engagement. Locals voted Stacey Reynolds’s nature-inspired “Beautiful Broomfield” as the winning artwork — which would adorn the George DiCiero City and County Building public stairwell rotunda for all to enjoy.

Broomfield tapped Denver-based Ink Monstr to bring the artist’s vision to life – a seamless vinyl wrap in a 43-foot-tall atrium with 40-year-old floor tile and walls that couldn’t be reached with standard lifts, scaffolds, or ladders. “The planning that was necessary to transform an atrium rotunda into a mural put our love for creativity, problem solving, and custom print graphic applications to the test,” says Ink Monstr CEO/Owner Jon White. “We started with a two-dimensional custom design piece that was converted into a three-dimensional installation.”

Collaborating with the muralist, city employees, designers, lift operators, installers, and media content gatherers to survey for precise measurements and create a scaled digital template, the PSP used its HP Latex 800 W press to image 2636 square feet of 3M Controltac IJ180Cv3 film, finishing with 3M Scotchcal Matte Overlaminate 8520.

Ink Monstr overcame the location’s unique installation challenges with two solutions. To smooth the seams and gaps in the rotunda’s walls, they decided to mount precision-routed PVC strips within wall panel gaps to keep the graphics consistently flat. But how to access the gaps far out of reach? The shop sourced the only indoor boom lift with a reticulating arm and track wheels in the entire state.

White sums up the colorful, seamless final graphics as “… more than a wall wrap for Ink Monstr; it is a unique work of art.”
