Making its premiere at the 2005 ISA show is a “modular” version of the NUR Tempo, now available in a number of configurations and with customer-specified options. Users can customize the new Tempo to meet their printing needs. And, Nur reports, the new Tempo will be much faster and will print up to 1300 sq ft/hr (current Tempo print speeds max out at 883 sq ft/hr).

Previously only available in 4- or 8-color modes, the Tempo now comes in 4-, 6-, or 8-color configurations: CMYK, CMYKcm, and CMYKcmyk. In addition, Tempo printers are also available with white ink, custom spot-color (a special red, green, blue, purple, and orange will initially be available), roll-to-roll option (previously available on the Tempo, but not the Tempo L), and selective varnish.

“When we first introduced Nur Tempo, many in the industry considered it a high-end press. We've seen increased demand for an entry-level machine that customers can add to as they gain more experience and their needs grow more sophisticated,” says David Amir, president and CEO of Nur Macroprinters. “The new modular and expandable NUR Tempo capabilities were designed to meet this need. They make a high-end platform accessible to a larger audience at a lower initial outlay, while retaining the ability to reach high-end performance”?.”

The white-ink option is new and allows users to overprint to cover non-white areas of graphics, or make the backside of a clear media more opaque. Customers can also use white ink as a spot color.

In addition, the new selective varnish option allows the user to apply varnish to a specific area of a graphic–to highlight and make it pop. The selective varnish is particularly desirable in P-O-P and exhibition graphics. Note: Print speeds with selective varnish as well as white will be slower because users must first print and then cover with white/varnish (or the other way around).
Although details have yet to be finalized, it's likely that the user will select a base machine and options. Customers may not be able to choose all options–there will be a given number of “slots” that can be filled. A configuration guide (detailing how many “slots” are available in each base configuration) will be announced at ISA. As this is written, some options remain in beta testing.
The new modular system will replace the Tempo. The base model price starts at $300,000. (Nur: www.nur.com)
