At the recent PhotoPlus show, Konica Minolta showcased its new Maxxum 7D digital SLR, as well as its new DiMage Master image-editing software.

Shown as a prototype at the PMA show this spring and then introduced at Photokina, the Maxxum 7D is a 6.1 Mpxl digital SLR that features the company's body-integral CCD-shift, Anti-Shake technology for improved handling characteristics. The system instantly and precisely shifts the CCD to compensate for camera motion, and allows photographers to shoot at shutter speeds up to three steps slower than what they would use without the feature, says Konica Minolta. The Anti-Shake technology helps provide images with reduced blur due to camera shake.

The Maxxum 7D also features a large, easy-to-view, high-definition 2.5-in. color LCD monitor, and is compatible with virtually any Maxxum AF lens. Its CxProcess III image-processing technology provides for fast data handling and improved camera responsiveness and control; it suppresses noise during slow-shutter imaging. It can shoot either RAW or JPEG images, or can shoot in a combined RAW+JPEG format for improved post-shoot workflow.

The Maxxum 7D is compatible with the full line of the Maxxum system of lenses and accessories, including two new recently added zoom lenses”?an AF Zoom 17-35mm F2.8-4 (D), and an AF Zoom 28-75mm F2.8 (D). The camera features a magnesium-alloy front body panel and weighs in at just about 27 ounces (without batteries and recording media). Estimated street price is $1599 (body only); a “kit price,” which includes a Maxxum AF Zoom 28-100mm f/3.5 “? 5.6 (D) lens is $1689.

To coincide with the launching of the Maxxum 7D, Konica Minolta also introduced its DiMage Master image-editing and enhancing software. An optional tool for Konica Minolta cameras, the software is designed to improve the creative workflow.

Image-management operations can be performed in three main operating windows:

Organizer”?allows for quick browsing of images by viewing instant thumbnail displays; images can be classified into four customizable categories with a single click.

Examiner”?allows for accurate and effective comparisons between similar shots, looking at factors such as exposure, histogram, white balance, and focus.

Photofinisher”?provides for retouching functions, allowing for white-balance adjustment, tone-curve tuning, etc.
