Are You Ready for Some Football?

Mimaki JV3-130 helps Road Rage Design kickoff Chicago’s season.

With football season looming, the Chicago Bears wanted to spruce up one of its team vehicles. The vehicle, originally orange with a smattering of team logos, needed something more appealing for an August photo shoot, the organization felt. The Bears found Road Rage through the 3M-certified installer network, provided some guidelines, and asked for a turnaround time within the week.

Road Rage designer Amy Pease created the textured background and placed the provided logos over top using Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. This was one of three designs that Road Rage presented to the Bears. Pease adds that the chosen design boasted two factors that helped its success: It was the simplest and easiest design to complete within the turnaround time.

With the design approved, Road Rage used its Mimaki JV3-130SP II printer with Onyx ProductionHouse RIP to output the wrap onto Avery Dennison MPI1005 EZ RS vinyl. Avery DOL1060 laminate was also used, as was a GBC Arctic Titan 165 laminator. Two full-time Road Rage installers wrapped the truck. As per Chicago Bears guidelines, the logos and graphics couldn’t be distorted in any way, either in the design process or in the install work. And, says Pease, “The bear’s head had to be straight—no part of him could be missing,” at a seam, for instance.

The team as well as its fans have given their approval on the final wrap. Road Rage’s Kris Harris remembers one woman, in town visiting from Minnesota, who saw the wrapped truck outside one day and could barely contain her excitement. And the Bears were so appreciative that they even loaned the vehicle back to Road Rage for a few days in early September so it could be displayed outside the shop. It has also been spotted around town at the team’s charity events.
