To raise the public awareness of rhinoceros poaching, a group called the Space Cowboys worked with the Frank Joubert Art Centre to create “Extinct” – an installation of 15 life-sized faux rhinos that took place during the Afrikaburn event this spring in South Africa. The beasts are made out of recyclable X-Core Board donated by Xanita, and were assembled by the Cowboys using Alcolin Range Woodglue. Leading up to World Rhino Day in September, the Space Cowboys aim to exhibit Extinct at various locations in Africa with the help of conservation groups, and perhaps move the herd abroad for even more exposure.
