Purex International of England has acquired the fume-extraction and filtration business of PAT Technology Systems in Montreal.

'This is an extremely exciting opportunity for Purex to enter into a new market space and at the same time provide greater presence and support for our existing customers,' says Paul Priestley, Purex managing director. 'The philosophies and cultures of the two businesses are so similar that I expect great synergies from this acquisition.'

PAT Technology Systems designs and manufactures fume-extraction systems for the wide-format inkjet printing industry. Its Captivair system is designed to remove the odors created by wide-format inkjet printing equipment, and the company has developed solutions for major printer manufacturers including EFI Vutek, HP, Mimaki, Mutoh, Roland, Seiko, and others.

Purex manufacturers fume-extraction equipment for hand and machine soldering applications in the electronics production industry; it also supplies fume extractors for laser marking, engraving and welding processes. In a press release, Purex indicated that the acquisition would provide it with 'better access to the USA and Canadian markets for its existing product portfolio.'

Purex employs 45 people in the UK and four people in its North American office in Chicago.
