The Job

On September 6, 1870, Louisa Swain became the first woman in the world to cast an electoral ballot in Laramie, Wyoming – 50 years before women in the rest of the nation could vote. Wyoming Territory was the first province to pass an unconditional law in the US permanently guaranteeing women their right to vote and hold office. For the 150th anniversary, the city of Cheyenne called upon Ink Monstr in Denver to print and install a wall mural of suffragettes protesting for their right to vote. “This job was special for us because it represents a monumental moment in history that tends to be forgotten: when women were granted the right to vote,” says Hillary Lauer, marketing director, Ink Monstr.

Production

Ink Monstr printed the graphics via an HP Latex 570 printer onto 3M IJ180cv3 Controltac graphic film; 3M 8518 Scotchal gloss overlaminate was used with a Seal 62 Base laminator. The shop did find challenges in the install process. “Because of the brick building’s surface, our installers had to carefully place and smooth the vinyl without snagging it,” says Lauer. Darren Rudloff, the former CEO of Visit Cheyenne, adds there were also, “periodic brick ‘protrusions’ sticking out as decoration,” which were also a challenge for the two installers traveling from Colorado to Wyoming.
