In the Groove

A chipping truck challenges Wicked Wraps.

At quick glance, wrapping a chipping truck for a local tree trimming company looks like an easy job. Or so Wicked Wraps (www.wickedwraps.net) thought. Running nearly the full length of the truck’s 15 x 8-foot body panels, however, are a series of three corrugated grooves, each five inches deep.

The challenge was designing the wrap to cover the sides and grooved areas without distortion. A flexible magnetic tape was used for precise measurements of each side, as well as the width and depth of the grooves.

The wrap was printed on Avery MPI 1005 Supercast Easy Apply RS cast vinyl film on an HP Designjet L26500 latex printer as two, full-length horizontal strips for each side. An 8-foot x 12.5-inch vertical strip was printed for areas where there is no groove.
