Fine-Art Inkjet Paper Market on a Roll, says Lyra

"Firms such as Ilford, InteliCoat, Oce, and Sihl are altering the competitive landscape."?

Worldwide shipments of roll-format fine-art inkjet paper and canvas will nearly double between 2005 and 2010, predicts Lyra Research.

As a result, forecasts the Newton, MA-based consulting firm, revenue from sales of roll-format fine-art ink jet paper will increase by more than 64 percent over this period. Worldwide shipments of cut-sheet fine-art inkjet paper will more than double between 2005 and 2010, while shipments of cut-sheet fine-art inkjet canvas are expected to quadruple.

“Some factors driving the rapid growth of the fine-art inkjet media market include the growth of the ‘prosumer’ or ‘advanced amateur’ digital-photography segment, more professional photographers transitioning from film processing to inkjet photo printing, and publishers adopting the on-demand fine-art reproduction model,” says Andrew Lippman, Lyra’s inkjet photo paper analyst.

“Also, traditional fine-art media vendors such as Arches, Crane, Hahnemuhle, and Somerset have developed strong brand reputations that allow them to position their products as high-end fine-art media, commanding higher prices. Firms such as Ilford, InteliCoat, Oce, and Sihl, however, are altering the competitive landscape by aggressively moving into this lucrative market as growth slows in other segments of the wide-format media market.”

Lyra's new report, “Fine-Art Ink Jet Media Market Assessment,” analyzes fine-art market trends, including: worldwide and North American shipment and revenue data for fine-art inkjet paper and canvas; an analysis of the fine-art inkjet paper and canvas markets, including an examination of products, pricing, vendors, and manufacturers; an examination of the dealer channel; product specifications and pricing for the hardware used to print on fine-art inkjet paper and canvas; and a discussion of the market challenges inherent in selling fine-art inkjet media to artists.
