DuPont Color Communication has followed up the release of its Cromalin Largo proofing systems with the introduction of a new auto-calibrating proofer to the high-end proofing market–the DuPont Cromalin Blue. Utilizing a drop-on-demand printhead that features a 1500-dpi optical resolution at a speed of just under 12 minutes for 4-page/B2 format (19.7 x 27.8 in.) and a speed of 7 minutes for 2-page/B3 size (14 x 19.7 in.), the Cromalin Blue is driven by DuPont's updated Cromanet software suite and integrates the company's proofing-specific inks and specialty proofing media. The proofer also features on-board temperature and humidity sensors and controls to ensure consistent contract quality.

“The proof engine itself robotically measures every printed sheet to ensure that the quality you expect is delivered consistently, even when environmental operating conditions change,” says William King, DuPont Color Communication product portfolio manager. When there is such a change, the Cromalin Blue recalibrates itself to maintain proof consistency, which includes logging the self-verification and calibration data for proofer performance documentation and quality control.

DuPont's Cromanet software incorporates RIPping, color management, color profiling and characterization, workflow management, and output calibration and control. Complementing the auto-calibration feature, the proofer is also compatible with DuPont's iCertification quality-control technology, a Web-enabled system that allows the sharing of proof and color data for either standards-based or custom digital proofing applications remotely across multiple production sites.

MSRP: $34,995.
