Digital-Imaging Revenues Up, say SGIA Respondents

Posters/banners, p-o-p, and pressure-sensitive graphics lead the way.

A majority of respondents to a recent survey by the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA) say their digital imaging revenues have increased this year. The average revenue increase reported came in at 12.3%, with the largest segment of respondents reporting revenues up by 20% or more.

Some additional notes from the survey:

“? More than 40% of respondents are expecting growth of 20% or more in their shops this year.

“? In 2004, 5.7% reported flat revenues; while only 3.1% anticipate 0% growth this year.

“? Asked to identify their top digitally imaged products, respondents indicated: posters/banners (73%), point-of-purchase materials (56%) and pressure-sensitive decals (31.5%). Other products of note: outdoor signs/billboards (28.9%), fleet marking (18.9%), garments/textiles (12.6%), transit advertising (5.7%), and fine-art/serigraphs (3.8%).

“? Asked to identify their top markets and products, respondents indicated: advertising (57.9%), corporate identity (45.9%), and retail stores (30.8%).

“? Based on participant responses, SGIA anticipates digital revenue growth to average 15.25 percent in 2005.

“Analysts expect digital-imaging revenues to top $8 billion this year and to reach $10 billion by the end of 2006 “? and that's at a conservative rate of growth,” says Alan Anderson, SGIA vice president, education and management services. (SGIA: www.sgia.org)
