3D Print Brings Corto Maltese to Life
Metropole fashions life-size replica of comic book character.
Throughout the summer, commuters traveling through the Gare de Paris-Austerlitz have enjoyed snapping selfies with a life-size replica of Corto Maltese, the beloved hero of an Italian comic book series by the same name. Unbeknownst to passersby is the work that went into producing the 52-inch-tall 3D printed figure. OOH provider Metropole devoted roughly 200 hours to the project: 25 for creating the 3D files, 70 for printing the eight-section display with their Massivit 1800, and 105 for assembling, polishing, and painting the pieces.
The display, designed to celebrate the comic book’s 50th anniversary and demonstrate the impact 3D printing can have on a target audience, is complemented by a large backdrop, printed on Metropole’s HP Latex 3000 onto Mactac adhesive vinyl.
