Océ has launched the new Océ Arizona 480 GT and Arizona 480 XT flatbeds. The 480 GT offers a table size of 49 x 98 in., while the 480 XT model offers a 98 x 120-in. table size. Both printers feature the company’s Océ VariaDot imaging technology, offer eight independent ink channels, can print on rigid media up to 2-in. thick, and offer a Roll Media Option.

The pair of 480 models offer new features including:

• Eight independent ink channels: the first four for standard CMYK; channels five and six for varnish + white or white + white for double opacity; and channels seven and eight for additional cyan and magenta (“CM2”) to enhance print quality and speed (25% faster than normal Production mode on non-CM2 models, the company reports).

• Active pixel placement compensation: dynamically ajdusting the location of individual pixels to achieve optimum image sharpness, density, and uniformity over the entire printing area.

• Precise vacuum system: six vacuum zones on the Arizona 480 GT and seven on the 480 XT, configured to match the majority of standard-sized graphic-arts media to reduce or eliminate manual masking.

• Batch mode operation: allows for complex, multi-layered jobs – those requiring multiple passes– to be streamlined using new batch mode tools; batch mode can also be used to produce sets of prints (50 items on 36 x 48-in. media and 30 items on 4 x 8-ft media, for instance) sequentially for easy collation and fulfillment.

Maximum print speed is 368 sq ft/hr (XT Express mod; 353 sq ft/hr on the GT); Production Squared mode is 272 sq ft/hr on the XT (264 sq ft/hr on the GT). Both printer models can print on rigid media up to 2 in. thick; a Roll Media Option allows for printing on flexible media up to 87-in. wide.

Typical applications rage from standard sign and display (P-O-P, retail signage, backlit signs) to specialty and industrial applications such as package prototyping, short-run packaging, wallpaper and interior decoration, and consumer-product decoration.
