Nikon has introduced the new D2Hs professional digital SLR, a 4.1-megapixel camera that's designed for those who want to shoot fast. The camera features a new image-processing engine for finer gradations, precise white balance, high-speed continuous shooting at 8 frames/sec for up to 50 consecutive shots (JPEG; or 40 RAW), and a 2.5-in. LCD monitor with a resolution of 232,000 pixels. It's compatible with Nikon's family of digital-exclusive DX Nikkor lenses as well as the lineup of Nikkor AF lenses.

It comes with Nikon PictureProject software–for image management, editing, and sharing”?and is compatible with Capture 4 software, for remote operation, image processing; dust-delete technology, and full control over RAW files. In addition, the D2Hs is compatible with the Wireless Transmitter WT-1/1A as well as the new Wireless Transmitter WT-2/2A, which supports both IEEE 802.11g (for faster transfer speeds) as well as IEEE 802.11b networks.

“During the development of Nikon's D2X professional digital SLR camera, the company created several new technologies and innovations. These new innovations have been integrated into the D2Hs to offer photographers a camera at par with Nikon's flagship D2X camera, with comparable performance, features and seamless workflow,” says Steve Heiner, general manager for Digital SLR and Professional Products at Nikon. “Photographers will appreciate the seamless design, transition and workflow between the D2X and the new D2Hs, allowing them to quickly switch between the two best-of-breed camera bodies, as dictated by the situation they need to photograph.”

The D2Hs features a lightweight (2.4 pounds), rigid magnesium-alloy body with an enhanced sealing system to resist moisture and dust. The D2Hs will be available in March 2005 for an MSRP of $3499.95. (Nikon: www.nikondigital.com)
