Nine leading sign companies representing 13 locations will participate in the National Association of Manufacturing’s (NAM) Manufacturing Day Oct. 4. The International Sign Association (ISA) is partnering with NAM to help expand people’s knowledge about and improve perception around manufacturing careers and the value of manufacturing to the U.S. economy. ISA’s goal is to engage and educate a potential workforce about the sign industry by reaching out to high school, vocational school and community college students to show them real career opportunities.

During Manufacturing Day, participating companies open up their facilities to students, political leaders and/or the community at large to showcase the importance of manufacturing to the local economy as well as job opportunities within the industry.

“Students may not always hear about career possibilities within the broader manufacturing sector,” said Lori Anderson, ISA president and CEO. “Manufacturing has always been the backbone of the American economy and will continue to be so. Participating in Manufacturing Day provides an opportunity to share that information as well as to showcase the many diverse careers within our particular industry.”

The nine sign companies and the locations participating are:

Cummings Signs, Dothan, Ala., and Riverside, Calif.
Hilton Displays, Greenville, S.C.
Federal Heath, Oceanside, Calif.; Euless, Texas; Jacksonville, Texas; and Delaware, Ohio
Kieffer & Co., Lincolnshire, Ill.
Lauretano Sign Group, Terryville, Conn.
Mattatall Signs, Ltd., Dartmouth, N.S.
North American Signs, South Bend, Ind.
Poyant Signs, New Bedford, Mass.
Watchfire Signs By Time-O-Matic, Danville, Ill.
Manufacturing Day is another initiative in ISA’s efforts to improve workforce development. A key partnership is with NAM. Earlier this year, sign companies participated in NAM’s Manufacturing Summit on Capitol Hill, which offered an opportunity to meet with members of Congress and their staffs to discuss topics like healthcare and the economy.
