Innovative Floor Graphics Print Medium Enhances New Las Vegas Sports Attraction

In December 2012, SCORE! Las Vegas, a 10,000 square-foot interactive sports exhibit containing more than 200 prized pieces throughout eight galleries, opened inside the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas. The museum display pieces are valued in the millions of dollars and are part of a never-been-done-before combination of sports history, memorabilia, interactive fun, and retail store. SCORE! is set in a stadium-style environment that is high energy, fun, and appealing to all ages.

At SCORE! you can do everything from testing your hockey maneuvering skills, baseball pitching, soccer kicks, vertical jumps and more. You can even see how fast you can change an actual tire at a NASCAR-designed pit stop. As much fun as SCORE! is, its display area is exceptional with the museum aspect showing authentic pieces that belonged to famous athletes. For this reason the exhibits had to have “Smithsonian-quality presentations.”

To achieve this look, the designers of SCORE had special requirements for the flooring, particularly in the display areas –
1. It was very important that the floor convey quality, creativity, and the fun, sporting atmosphere like the rest of the display. So the ability to add custom graphics to match the topic of different display areas was vital.
2. The graphics had to “pop” both in color and detail.
3. And to flow seamlessly from area to area.
4. At the same time the floor and the graphics had to be extremely durable, handling at times more than 15,000 visitors a month.
5. Needless to say, the flooring also had to be easy to clean in spite of how much traffic it saw in any given day.
6. Finally, the cost of the flooring had to stay within budget, including installation labor.

Although the designers had several flooring options, only one alternative gave them the ability to include high quality, durable custom graphics to match the theme of different display areas. This was G-Floor Graphic from Better Life Technology. G-Floor Graphic is an imaged vinyl floor with a clear vinyl top surface to protect the graphics and a white backing to create a crisp, detailed image in color or black and white. G-Floor Graphic comes in widths up to 10’ and in lengths up to 48’. Each roll is precision cut to seam together exactly, making them suitable for any size display, including one as large and varied as SCORE!.

After discovering G-Floor at a trade show, SCORE!’s designers worked with BLT to develop custom graphics for the exhibit floors. Their collaboration resulted in BLT delivering 18 rolls of 75 ml flooring custom printed and installed to fit each room. This encompassed 5500 square feet out of 10,000.

Installation of the G-Floor was done by Master Craft Carpet from Las Vegas. They had not worked with G-Floor before but were very impressed by the ease and speed of installation. “The speed of install compared to composite or panel flooring was very noticeable”, says Garrett, company owner. “We were so impressed that we have included the flooring on some major jobs we are quoting.”
