Founder of Gregory Inc. Passes

Marcus L. Gregory, founder of Gregory Inc., passed away February 2, at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, Kansas; he was 79 years old.

Born February 9, 1929 in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, the son of Clair Raymond and Mabel Ellen (Hill) Gregory, Marcus Gregory graduated from Barnsdall High School in 1947 and from Northeastern State College in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, with a BA degree in 1951.

He began his career as a teacher at Cleveland Elementary School in Cleveland, Oklahoma, then entered the sign and graphic arts business in 1954. In 1956 he and his wife, Dorothy, founded Gregory Sign Advertising in Hutchinson, which was later renamed Gregory, Inc., and moved to Buhler, Kansas, in 1973. He served as president of the company until his retirement in 1999.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four sons, Mark Gregory and wife Valerie, Tim Gregory and wife Elaine, Jonathan Gregory, David Gregory and wife Beth; a daughter, Sarah Kuykendall and husband Todd; two brothers, Clair R. Gregory Jr., and Ted W. Gregory; a sister, Lois Joy Kuhn; eight granddaughters, four grandsons, two great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.
