Drytac has acquired Toronto-based Multi-Tac, an adhesive-coatings company that specializes in the manufacture of high-quality pressure-sensitive products and custom coating solutions. The company operates two coating lines and serves a number of markets including flexible packaging, graphic arts, and label and tape applications.

“The combined operation will result in improved efficiencies, greater flexibility, and shorter development time from customer concept to finished product,” says Marc Oosterhuis, Drytac’s president. “With an increased coating, slitting, and sheeting capacity, we can not only expand our standard product range but grow our specialty custom-coating services in North America.”

“We can now offer aqueous, solvent, and hot-melt coatings suitable for a variety of substrates. We are also able to adhesive and top coat up to 61 inches (1550 mm) wide.”

In other Drytac news, the company has agreed to sell its UV liquid coating division – including UV coaters and UV liquid coatings – to Advanced Finishing Technologies/Digital2You, which distributes finishing products including film laminators, liquid coaters, flatbed cutters/plotters, and dye-sublimation-heat-transfer equipment and supplies.

The company reports that “the sale is a direct result of a recent corporate review during which Drytac decided to shift its business strategy. Going forward, Drytac will focus on its expanded line of standard and custom adhesive-coated products.”

Drytac will retain its aqueous (water-based) liquid coating division, which offers aqueous liquid coaters and liquid coatings to customers in the graphics-finishing market.

Jim Tatum, who previously managed Drytac’s UV liquid coating division, will now direct the product line at Advanced Finishing Technologies. Advanced Finishing Technologies will continue to offer the same UV product lines with the same product names through various sales channels and the Digital2You dealer network, the company reports.

“Jim’s knowledge of the UV liquids market … and his familiarity with our UV liquid customers should ensure a smooth transition for both companies,” says Marc Oosterhuis.
