Domtar Corporation has entered into an agreement to sell its Ariva business in the US to Central National-Gottesman Inc. The business will be integrated into Central National-Gottesman’s Lindenmeyr Munroe division. Ariva's Canadian operations are not affected by the transaction; the Canadian operations will be consolidated into Domtar's Pulp and Paper Division. The transaction is expected to close at the end of July 2013.
In a subsequent transaction, immediately following the closing of the sale, Central National-Gottesman then agreed to sell the US Midwest portion of the Ariva business to The Millcraft Paper Company, a family-run paper merchant based in Cleveland. Millcraft’s acquisition includes Ariva’s six Midwest locations: Cincinnati, Cleveland, Columbus, and Dayton, Ohio; and Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, Indiana.
“We couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity to integrate the Ariva operations into our Millcraft business model,” says Travis Mlakar, Millcraft’s president. “The acquisition offers us new product lines, including expanded digital capabilities, Ariva’s expertise in packaging, and so much more. However, perhaps the most exciting aspect is the prospect of consolidating two incredible teams of people into a great organization which will continue to be focused on the customer going forward.”
Ariva has approximately 400 employees in the US. Headquartered in Covington, Kentucky, Ariva operates from 15 locations across eight states in the Northeast and Midwest regions.
Ariva introduced a portfolio of branded wide-format print media in December 2012. The company’s wide-format offerings include: photo papers; backlit films; rollup films; sign and banner media; fine-art media; self-adhesive media; overlaminates; and more. In addition, the company offered some Mactac products.
Headquartered in Purchase, New York, Central National-Gottesman is an international marketer of pulp and paper. The company has sales offices in 28 US cities and 23 countries worldwide. CNG operates several divisions, including its Lindenmeyr Munroe, whose product lines includes digital papers, printing papers, packaging solutions, a line of Xerox-specific papers, and more.
