Previously a customizer of Infiniti wide-format printers for the European market, Augend Technologies has developed a modular solvent inkjet printer–the Augend F16–that it reports is “the convergence between traditional screen-printing equipment and high-speed quality inkjet printing.” Positioned for the high-end outdoor printing market and designed to produce billboards, bus shelter posters, scaffolding graphics, and building wraps, the F16 takes standard stock rolls, images onto them, and delivers finished cut sheets.

The CMYK solvent printer features 5-l ink tanks and offers UV-curing as an option. It images onto 105- to 250-gsm media in roll up to 2646 lb; the rolls can be up to 47.2 in. wide and sheets up to 59 x 78.7 in. in size.

With options of 16, 24, or 48 Spectra Nova 256 printheads, the F-16 has up to 12,288 inkjet nozzles. It’s capable of reaching top speeds of up to 5813 sq ft/hr at 180 dpi (1-pass) with 48 printheads; the F16 1-pass 180-dpi top speed for 16 heads is 1938 sq ft/hr and for its 24-head printer is 2906 sq ft/hr.

Developed and produced in Belgium, the Augend F16’s modular design allows users to choose the options needed; modules include an unwinder, printer, up to two dryers, cutter, and stacking units. Computer-controlled X cutting and dual Y cutters, it also offers tension-controlled media belt to ensure flatness of substrates.

With a footprint reminiscent of the HP Scitex TJ8300 or FB6700, the F16 is 36.6 ft long and 13 ft wide. The printer also offers auto-centering of media while printing, unattended cleaning, a touch screen, and job queue in the machine without resending.

Augend offers both solvent-based and UV-curable inks for this machine.
