Schweiter Technologies, which completed its acquisition of Alcan Composites this past winter, has changed the name of the company to 3A Composites. The company’s well-known product brands include Alucobond, Dibond, Fome-Cor, Sintra, Gator, Gator-Ply, Omni-Flute, Syn-Ply, Luxcell, and others.

“Our new business name reflects our organization’s unequaled reputation for quality in the industries that we serve,” says Brendan Cooper, president, 3A Composites USA. “While our overall business name will change, customers in each of these industries will still be able to rely on our trusted well-established product lines. Our customers will continue to derive high value from the world’s leading composite substrates.”

Sales and marketing offices for 3A Composites USA remain based in Mooresville, North Carolina; manufacturing facilities are located in Benton and Glasgow, Kentucky, and in Statesville, North Carolina. 3A Composites employs 2700 employees in 21 locations in Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

“Our highest priority at 3A Composites will continue to be to meet customer needs with value-added products backed by outstanding customer service,” says W. Jay Wynne, vice president, sales and marketing, 3A Composites USA. “Although our company name has changed, the familiar names and faces in our customer-focused organization have not. As 3A Composites, we stand ready to meet or exceed our customers’ expectations for high-quality products and service.”

Schweiter initially announced the agreement to purchase the Alcan Composites business from Rio Tinto Group in September 2009, for $349 million. According to a Schweiter press release at the time of the acquisition announcement, consolidate sales for Alcan Composites in 2008 reached $859 million ($88 million EBITDA); in the first eight months of 2009, Composites posted sales of $394 million ($36 million EBITDA, before audit). Between 2006 and 2008, Composites grew by 20 percent.

Schweiter Technologies, based in Switzerland, focuses its activities on high-quality machine construction. In addition to the 3A Composites division, it comprises the SSM Textile Machinery and Ismeca Semiconductor divisions.
