Adobe Updates DNG Converter

Includes support for 14 new cameras

Adobe has announced an update to its
Digital Negative Specification (DNG) Converter.
The DNG Converter will now give
users additional preference settings for
JPEG preview size, as well as the option to
run DNG using a command-line interface.

The updated DNG Converter includes
support for 14 new cameras added to
the new Camera Raw 3.2 plug-in (see
below), stores larger previews, and
expands options for storing the original
proprietary files within the translated
DNG. The updated Converter is available
as a free download.

In addition, Adobe has:

  • Introduced the Camera Raw 3.2
    plug-in,
    extending long-term archiving
    abilities to 14 new camera models. The
    plug-in now supports more than 80 cameras,
    Adobe reports, and is available as a
    free download.

  • Announced that Ricoh Co.'s new GR
    digital camera
    will support DNG.

  • Updated and expanded its worldwide
    Photographers Directory. Available
    via the Adobe Bridge feature in Adobe's
    Creative Suite2 and Photoshop CS2 as
    well as on Adobe's website, the Directory
    is a searchable database that includes
    links to photographers around the world.
    Adobe has teamed up with nearly 20 professional
    photography associations to
    assemble the Directory's roster.

  • Announced that its Momentum in
    Print 2006 Conference
    will be held January
    22-24 at the San Francisco Marriott.
    The event will comprise keynote
    addresses, panel discussions, tutorials,
    technical roundtables, workflow and
    technology demonstrations, sponsor displays,
    and more. Attendees will include
    printers, Adobe vendor and development
    partners, industry educators, and association
    members. Registration fee: $495
    ($395 if registered prior to December
    23, 2005).
