Features flatbed tables

Gerber's new Solara UV2 is a rollfed and
flatbed wide-format printer based on
the company's original Solara UV design,
introduced in 2004. Unlike the Solara UV,
however, the UV2 also sports a pair of
flatbed tables; constructed of industrialgrade
aluminum, that can support a 5 x
10-ft rigid substrate up to 0.5-in. thick.

The Solara UV2 features multi-drop
printheads, 6-color UV-curable inks,
and accommodates rolled media up to
60-in. wide. It offers a 300 x 360-dpi
native resolution and 600-dpi apparent
resolution. Speeds in draft 2-pass
mode are 75 sq ft/hr; in high-quality
mode, speeds reach 25 sq ft/hr. The
printer adds violet and green to the
standard CMYK inkset; violet and green
broaden the available color gamut and
enhances the blues, greens, and violets,
reports Gerber.

ImageRIP Pro or ImageRIP Plus by
Onyx are available RIP selections. Sign
shops using Gerber's Omega graphicdesign
and production software can convert
their designs and import them into
the ImageRIP. ImageRIP also supports
print-to-cut workflows, including the Gerber
P2C plotter, the company reports.

Price: $64,995 with RIP, install, and
warranty. Original Solara UV owners can
retrofit their existing printers by adding
flatbed tables.
