VUTEk's new UltraVu II 3360 3-m printer replaces its previous UltraVu 3360 EC superwide printer. The UltraVu II 3360 comes with a ColorBurst Software RIP and Vutek's new automated two-sided printing system for producing consistent, distortion-free double-sided graphics.

Available in 4-, 6-, or 8-color models, the piezo drop-on-demand printer comes with Vutek's Rapid Return feature that allows the printer carriage to increase its acceleration and deceleration speeds, so there is no significant pause between printhead sweeps. The new printer can hit a maximum speed of 2113 sq ft/hr, and is 10% to 50% faster in some print modes than its predecessor, Vutek reports. Print resolution is 360 dpi addressable (720 dpi apparent).

The 8-color model is geared for easy conversion between super-fast-quality printing and photo-quality printing, and can be configured in two ways: Fast-4, or two channels per color (CMYK) for higher speed; or, one channel per color (CMYK, plus light cyan, light magenta, light yellow, and light black) for photo-realism. The 4- and 6-color models are upgradeable.

The UltraVu II 3360 also features an automated two-sided printing system that prints a 2.5-cm-wide bar along the edge of each print. When the media is flipped, dual sensors detect the black in the registration, bar, and special software then automatically centers the new image so it aligns with the image on the reverse side.

Price on the UltraVu II 3360 starts at $199,000. Existing UltraVu 3360 customers can download the Rapid Return feature as part of a free software upgrade at no charge. The automated two-sided printing system is a field upgrade, which requires the purchase and installation of the registration sensor. (Vutek: www.vutek.com)
