Canon U.S.A. has introduced three new imagePrograf large-format printers: the 44-in. iPF8300, 24-in. iPF6350, and the 24-in. iPF6300.

Targeted at the graphic-arts, fine-art, photography, and proofing markets, the three printers feature Canon’s new, 12-color Lucia EX pigment inkset (CMYKRGB + photo cyan + photo magenta + gray + photo gray + matte black). This new inkset increases the achievable color gamut by approximately 20 percent vs. the previous imagePrograf iPFx100 series, Canon reports, enabling more than 90-percent coverage of Pantone colors; in addition, the inks are designed to produce more expressive and crisp blacks, smooth color gradations, and are capable of reproducing fine details in shadow areas.

Each new imagePrograf model employs two 1-in. printheads, each featuring 2560 nozzles per color and outputting a 4-picoliter (pl) droplet. Non-fire nozzle detection is standard. Top resolution is 2400 x 1200 dpi.

The printers also feature: a new Media Configuration Tool, to allow for quick accommodation of various third-party media; a Photoshop plug-in that allows for 16-bit RGB images edited in Photoshop to be sent directly to the printer; an Accounting Manager, to track ink and media consumption; automatic dual-blade cutter; standard gigabit Ethernet network interface; and more. The iPF8300 and iPF6350 also come with an 80-GB hard drive. Full PosterArtist software is available as an option on all three models; PosterArtist Lite comes standard on the iPF6350 and the iPF6300.
Suggested retail prices: imagePrograf iPF8300, $5995; iPF6350, $3995; iPF6300, $3695. (Note: The iPF6200 and iPF8100 will continue to be available while supplies last; the iPF6100 will continue to be part of the imagePrograf lineup.)
