To demonstrate what was possible at the new Roland Digital Research Laboratory, 25 students at Ireland’s National College of Art and Design created designs for two motorcycles supplied by Ducati Dublin. Once the two final designs had been chosen-from students Kitty Ka Kei Chan and Sam Edmonds, shown here-they were output in-house (with the help of NCAD’s Pat Mooney and Terry McDermott) on the facility’s Roland SolJet Pro III XC-540 with Roland Eco-Sol Max inks onto Avery MPI 1900, then laminated with Avery DOL 1030.

Kevin Ryan of Revolution executed the in-lab wrapping of the bikes. “Students are used to digital printing but not to wrapping or alternative uses of the equipment. It was a way to think outside their normal two-dimensional ideas of the printed surface,” says Mooney.
