This summer, visitors to the Liberty Bridge Park in downtown Greenville, South Carolina couldn’t help but have books on the brain as oversized literary classics lined a fountain, an electric box became a book shelf, and The Grapes of Wrath transformed into a park bench.

The larger-than-life stories were part of the Greenville Literacy Association’s campaign for a book drive leading up to the organization’s annual “Really Good, Really Big, Really Cheap Book Sale.” Proceeds from the sale benefited the GLA, South Carolina’s largest community-based adult literacy program.

The project’s graphics were created by Greenville-based The Bounce Agency and then sent to neighboring print provider, TPM. The print shop used its Durst Rho 600 to output onto 3M Scotchcal Graphic Film for Textured Surfaces 8624 ES and 3M Controltac Graphic Film with Comply Adhesive 180C. In addition to the aforementioned park bench, fountain, and electric-box graphics, the shop also produced images to be adhered to cinder blocks, parking garage steps, and elevator doors. In all, 192 square feet of graphics were printed, and the job took two days to print. The graphics were finished with 3M Scotchcal Overlaminate 8524 and then cut with the shop’s Kongsberg i-cut router. They were installed in two days, by an outside party.
