Roland DGA introduced its VersaCut line of print trimmers engineered specifically for production graphics shops. The new line includes both manual and crank-assisted models.

• The VersaCut manual trimmer is available in 44-, 68-, and 100-inch widths and is designed for flexible and rigid substrates. This model supports a range of media, including vinyl, paper, Coroplast, and foamboard (and can cut Sintra in multiple passes). It transitions between substrates without the need for any adjustment or changes to setup, Roland reports. An optional stand includes a roll hanger to support full rolls of printed graphics.

• VersaCut CR crank-assisted trimmers, offered in 48- and 72-inch sizes, can cut Sintra, Gatorfoam, Coroplast, and other rigid substrates up to 1/2-in. thick, and are designed to bridge the gap between handheld trimmers and fully mechanized trimmers or wall cutters. The CR trimmers require 35 psi of compressed air to operate (no electricity) and can be secured to a workbench and repositioned to meet the needs of each job. A standard dual blade holder supports hard substrates; an optional single blade holder is available for higher-speed cutting of softer materials.
Both the VersaCut and VersaCut CR trimmers are constructed of aluminum with stainless-steel reinforcements.

List prices: VersaCut, $699-$899; VersaCut CR, $1229-$1329.

In addition, Roland had a preliminary showing of its GX-640 cutter. Designed for vehicle graphics, window tints, signage, stencils, pinstriping, and more, the GX-640 can accommodate media up to 64-inches wide and has an optical registration system for accurate contour cutting. The company is billing it as its fastest cutter to date, but was unable to provide speeds prior to its official release in June. Roland CutStudio and R-Wear Studio software are included.
