Nikon's New D2xs Digital SLR

Features a 12.4-Mpxl CMOS image sensor.

Nikon”?s latest professional DSLR”?the D2xs”?builds on the company”?s D2x, and includes several upgrades such as refined viewfinders performance, 2.5-in. LCD with 170″? viewing angle, and many firmware enhancements.

The D2xs features a 12.4-Mpxl CMOS image sensor for high-resolution images with sharp details. Shots are captured as JPEG or RAW (NEF) images at a rate of up to 5 frames/sec in continuous shooting mode. For storage, the camera uses Compact Flash cards (Type I/II) and Microdrives.

In addition, the D2xs offers a High-Speed Crop mode: A specific central area of the sensor is used to capture 6.8-Mpxl images at speeds up to 8 frames/sec (29 consecutive RAW or 38 JPEG shots). The viewfinder automatically superimposes a mask over the cropped area within the viewfinder for easier composition. This mode is particularly helpful when shooting sports, animals, or other fast-moving objects from a distance.

The camera also features Nikon”?s Multi-Cam2000 high-speed AF system with 11 autofocus sensors. The optional Lock-On focus tracking offers improved subject acquisition and tracking capability. The D2xs is compatible with a wide variety of Nikkor AF and AF-S lenses, as well as the DX Nikkor lenses.

Options include WT-2A Wi-Fi transmitter, I-TTL Speedlight technology for creative lighting, Right-Angle Magnifying Viewing Attachment DR-5, Capture NX Software, Camera Control Pro Software, and Image Authentication Software.

Estimated street price: $4699.95.
