Mimaki has developed a new white ink for its SS21 inkset that is used with its JV33 series of wide-format solvent printers. The new white ink is fast drying with improved whiteness and opacity. Additionally, the white pigments have been improved to prevent a shift of whiteness due to sedimentation.

The new white ink, along with Mimaki's 'White ink overlay printing' makes printing faster. Normally when printing white as an underlayer on transparent media, white is printed first and then the media has to be re-fed to print the color on top of the white. This can lead to registration problems. However, the new white ink overlay printing allows users to image white and full-color simultaneously for quicker and more accurate output.

“Now designers can produce the same vivid images with white under and overlay which was previously available only on flatbed printers”, says Isao Tabayashi, general manager of IM (Ink and Media) division.
