CONGRATS! YOU MADE IT through the hustle and bustle of the holidays into 2023.

Does it feel different? Is it heavier? Is it perfectly bound? Wait, what? I’m no longer talking about your existence in the new year. I’m referring to our bigger, bolder, better book.

In 2014, we launched a major redesign of the magazine. Our tagline was “Bigger. Bolder. Better. Redesigned with you in mind.” Check out the picture of me next to our booth signage at Printing United Expo. Nine years later and we’re bigger, bolder, and better than ever.

After much consideration and what turned out to be a very quick discussion with the Editorial Advisory Board (they all said yes!), we’ve decided to publish the magazine six times a year with more content in each issue. Our feature articles are longer and more in-depth. The exclusive data from our Brain Squad surveys will be more robust. (If you haven’t joined the VIP group, what are you waiting for? bigpicturemag.com/brainsquad.) Three industry experts have joined our Big Business section as regular columnists: Brian Adam, Kristin Lanzarone, and James Swanson. And we have new departments, like Big Picture Online, where you can get your wide-format fix any day, any time.

I hope you love the new format as much as I do.

Smart Tips From This Issue

  1. Start Lean manufacturing processes in the bathroom. Yes, you read that right. (Special Feature, 32)
  2. Sixty-nine percent of the Brain Squad believes they create their own luck. Consider the luck equation that got you where you are today. (The Big Story, 42)
  3. Between 70 and 90 percent of mergers and acquisitions fail. Communication, in-person meetings, and a focus on culture help lead to a successful pairing. (Big Business, 54)
  4. To be a leading installer, you must be trained and certified. A degree from YouTube University doesn’t count. (Big Business, 57)
