Charrette, distributor of a wide range of
wide-format machines and supplies,
has introduced its first nameplated
wide-format solvent printer”?the Duratex
SP-64X. This 64-in. wide printer,
manufactured for Charrette, features 6
colors (CMYKcm), Epson printheads,
and four different printing speeds.
Using its mirrored bidirectional printing
capabilities, the Duratex prints up to
398 sq ft/hr (in 360-dpi billboard mode)
and offers resolutions up to 1440 dpi in
its high-quality mode.

To increase productivity by eliminating
frequent changing of ink cartridges,
the printer comes equipped with a bulkink
delivery system. This system features
500-ml refillable ink cartridges
(Duratex ink sells for $189 per liter). In
addition, customers can purchase a
$1500 bulk-ink system that offers an 8-
tank system (one tank per color, plus
two that can be used for cleaning solution);
each tank holds 1000 ml, which
feeds directly into the ink lines, bypassing
the cartridges.

The Duratex ink offers 2- to 5-yr outdoor
durability, depending on the media
used. These inks are also backed by the
Avery Graphics ICS Performance Guarantee
when used with specific Avery media.

In addition, the Duratex comes standard
with Onyx LT RipCenter RIP (Onyx
Postershop is optional), is capable of handling
up to 220-lbs rolls of media, and features
a preprint, platen, and post-printing
heating/drying system. Charrette also
offers a CaptivAir air purifier or Island
Clean Air Duster room scrubber as optional
equipment with this printer.

Price: $33,995; installation/training is
$1500; and a year's service contract is
$4995. Charrette says it plans on
expanding its private-label product line,
especially in the solvent market. (Charrette: www.charrette.com)
