Agfa’s new Synaps media, a synthetic paper, made its US debut (it premiered at Drupa last year). With its modified polyester base, the paper is recyclable and has initially been designed for use on offset presses; Agfa reports that it can also be used on UV inkjet printers but not non-UV inkjet (it's also suitable for screen, flexo, and gravure printing).

Synaps uses a formulation and manufacturing process that creates voids in the polyester substrate to make it white and opaque. The material is coated on both sides with a special ink-receiving layer to give it the distinct look and feel of a luxury paper, the company reports. It also boasts a fast drying time. Resistant to water, tearing, and UV lights, Synaps can be used in harsh outdoor environments.

The paper is available in a range of weights (from 110 to 300 gr/m2) and in sheets in sizes from 16.5 x 25.2 to 28.3 x 40.2 inches ('material on roll is possible,' Agfa reports).
