UMax Technologies has introduced its new PowerLook 270-2 color CCD film scanner. The scanner is the first to feature the company's zero-reflection optical design, which preserves image definition and allows light to pass straight through the CCD without reflection.

Aimed at the professional film photographer and other users, the PowerLook 270-2 offers an optical resolution of 2700 dpi, with a maximum optical density of 3.4 Dmax. It's compatible with a wide range of black-and-white as well as color film formats, including 35mm filmstrip and 35mm mounted slides; it also features an optimized preset scan setting to support 20 popular film standards currently on the market. Scan modes: 48 bit (color), 16 bit (grayscale).

Other features include an auto-loading mechanism and auto-focusing technology (eliminating the need for a manual feeder), as well as USB 2.0 connectivity. The PowerLook 270-2 includes full versions of LaserSoft Imaging's SilverFast Ai 6.0 and Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0 (can be upgraded to Photoshop CS for $299).

MSRP: $299, includes 1-year warranty. (UMax Technologies: www.umax.com)
