This summer, Dilworth Park, on the west side of Philadelphia’s City Hall, finally completed its eight-year, $55-million makeover. Located at Philadelphia’s Centre Square, the 120,557 square feet of green public space feature an interactive fountain that transforms into an ice skating rink in the winter months; lawn space and tree grove seating areas with a café; and events such as festivals, live musical performances, outdoor movie screenings, and happy hour specials – all above a major transit hub.

To promote the renovation as well as highlight the lives of Philadelphians, the Philadelphia Photo Arts Center tasked anyone with a camera or smartphone to capture a moment in time during the first-ever Philly Photo Day exhibition last October. The result? Nearly 2000 photographs that take a peek inside residents’ homes, spanning almost every neighborhood in Philadelphia and showcasing the life and landmarks of the city. All park visitors have to do to enjoy them is look down.

Brands Imaging (www.brandsimaging.com) was tasked with bringing these images to life and installing them along park pathways. The shop printed 522 feet of graphics with its Mimaki JV33-160 solvent printer on AlumiGraphics Grip media. “Each section was tiled to be 18 feet long and 26.5 inches wide, so we ganged up and ran it on rolls that are 53 inches wide by 150 feet long,” says President Brett Brand.

The print shop selected AlumiGraphics Grip media for this project because the durable FBM (foil-based media) does not require an overlaminate and allows for quick installation without heat. “The slip resistance rating of AlumiGraphics Grip in wet conditions was also important to us and our client,” Brands says.

Micah Causey, VP of business development, AlumiGraphics, says he was impressed by the outcome: “I love the artistic interplay – how the graphics on the sidewalks are used as a pathway that informs and entertains pedestrians.”
