SGIA Digital Expo Draws Nearly 5500 Attendees

The SGIA reports that its SGIA Digital Expo in Phoenix in early December drew nearly 5500 attendees from around the world as well as nearly 150 vendors. More than 90% of attendees were from the US; the top three states in terms of attendance were Arizona, California, and Illinois. From outside of the US, Canada, Mexico, and the UK sent the most representatives.

At the event, the SGIA's Digital Printing & Imaging Association (DPI) announced its annual awards, including:

In addition, SGIA presented its first DPI Innovator Award to Arthur Cleary of Vutek; the award was created “to recognize digital-imaging visionaries.” Cleary created, among other things, the Vutek 801, the superwide airbrush printer.

“He has given us the ability to produce single images or short runs at viable costs, without many of the time-intensive steps necessary for convention production. It's not an exaggeration to say that without Arthur Cleary, none of us would be where we are today,” says Gordon Brown of Vista Image, Golden Colorado, DPI representative to the SGIA board of directors.

The SGIA Digital Expo was a replacement for the cancelled annual SGIA event in New Orleans. The 2006 event takes place September 26-29 in Las Vegas.
