Say These 5 Words to Eliminate Employee Excuses

“My expectations for you are…”

It’s not as common as it should be for a manager to provide clear goals and expectations. Research shows the majority of performance problems stem from a failure to clearly communicate desired behaviors and results. After clearly communicating your expectations, be sure to follow up regularly. (Bonus line: it’s better to launch these conversations by saying “Let’s talk about your progress” rather than “Let me give you some feedback.”)
