For Julie Mollo (juliemollo.com), a junior fashion design major at the Pratt Institute in New York, “fabric” is in the eye of the beholder.

In a House of Diehl fashion battle hosted by celebrity stylist Phillip Bloch, Mollo and her competitors from other New York design schools had 35 minutes to create a dress for a live model using actual wide-format inkjet photo prints produced with an Epson Stylus Pro 7880 using Epson UltraChrome K3 inks on Fujifilm Photo Paper Satin 270 media.

Mollo’s winning dress was comprised of 20 photos (in sizes 20 x 30, 11 x 14, 8 x 10, and 5 x 7), which she took with a Fujifilm FinePix Z20fd digital camera, provided by the competition. The purpose was to design stylish fashions using the interplay of electronic textiles and wearable technology.
