The new Tempo II from NUR is replacing the Tempo, which premiered in 2003. The UV-curable printer, says the company, offers better quality at a higher speed for an increased throughput. The improvement is the result of a new design and related adjustments to the machine's operating software, including new print modes.

Specific changes in the Tempo II include: using Nur's standard Fusion UV system (same that is used in the Expedio 5000 and 3200); an improved inkset for a wider color gamut, better adhesion, higher speeds, and more consistent print quality; and more print modes–8-color FinePress II, 4-colro Press II, and 4-color X-press.

Accommodating rigid media up to 10.5 x 6.5 ft in size and 2-in. thick, as well as rollfed media (optional module) up to 86-in. wide, the Tempo II can print in both 4- and 8-color modes (changeover is fast, reports Nur). It also offers a white-ink option (in 6-color mode”?CMYKcmW) that allows white ink to be used as a spot color, white overprint to cover non-white areas of graphic, or to make the backside of an image printed on transparent media opaque.

The flatbed uses Tempo Flex ink or Tempo Multipurpose II inks from Nur. The fully encapsulated machine is compatible with a wide range of media and produces prints with up to 2-yr outdoor durability.

Print resolutions can reach 360 dpi or 720 dpi apparent. With 10 print modes, the Tempo II can run as fast as 1300 sq ft/hr in 4-color X-press mode; 376 sq ft/hr in 6-color plus white FinePress mode; and 559 sq ft/hr in 8-color

Available with the Wasatch RIP, the Tempo II is compatible with many other RIPs. In addition, all Tempo I printers can be upgraded to the Tempo II with a field-installable upgrade kit.
