Bowe Bell + Howell has added a series of wide-format models to its line of scanners. The Infinity WF series is designed to accommodate maps and architectural drawings, as well as engineering schematics, and other large, detailed documents.

The Infinity WF is available in three models: WF 36, WF 42, and WF 48, with available scan widths of 36-, 42-, and 48-in., respectively. The WF 36 can scan documents as wide as 38-in., while the WF 42 and WF 48 can accommodate documents up to 50-in. wide. All three models can handle media up to 0.12-in. thick.

The scanners are equipped with Bowe Bell + Howel's SharpShooter Trilinear CCD cameras and a white LED light source. Additionally, the SharpShooter cameras are enclosed in a glass-protected case to eliminate dust.

The scanners are capable of capturing grayscale, bitonal, and color scans. At 400 dpi, the WF 36 model offers scanning speeds of 12.6 ips (in. per sec) for a bitonal scan and 4.2 ips for a color scan. At the same resolution, the WF 42 and WF 48 models offer speeds of 9.5 ips for a bitonal scan and 3.2 ips for a color scan. All models offer an optical resolution of 600 dpi and a maximum resolution of 1200 dpi.

Additional features include: automatic camera calibration, which enables the scanner to be used immediately after it is turned on; a touch-screen interface; automatic width detection of media; and an image-rotation capability, which allows users to scan documents that exceed the maximum scanning width by feeding the document lengthwise then rotating the scanned image to the proper orientation. The scanner also includes software for image capture and enhancement and for scanning to PDF, JPEG or TIFF files.
