Inca is expanding its Spyder 320 line of UV-curable flatbeds with the Spyder 320-e and Spyder 320+; both new printers build on the company's standard Spyder, which continues to be offered.

The new Spyder 320-e offers high quality output at medium speeds, and sports a more economical price. The printer features just 8 printheads (versus 16 in the standard 320), one UV-curing lamp (versus two in the standard version), and unidirectional printing only (the standard version offers bidirectional printing). Speeds for the 320-e range from 270 sq ft/hr in 600 x 600-dpi poster mode to 160 sq ft/hr in 720 x 1000-dpi backlit/lenticular mode. The 320-e can be upgraded on-site to the original 320 or to the new 320+.

The Spyder 320+ model offers 24 printheads (4 heads/color, however white ink has 8 heads/color), two curing lamps, and a modular IncaPrint carriage with either 4-color + white or a 6-color inkset. This new 6-color printer is designed for closer viewing output where there is a requirement to reproduce flesh tones, smoother light colors, and graduations. In the white ink option, users can print white ink either before or after printing the CMYK set (the user makes this decision at the RIP stage). No speeds are available yet for the 320+.

In addition, the new 320 and 320+ printers include the new version of the company's Spyder Run software, which enables bidirectional printing and a top speed of 874 sq ft/hr (80 sq m/hr), with a production speed (high-quality 720 x 1000-dpi mode) of 706 sq ft/hr (65 sq m/hr). The new software also features nozzle mapping so that clogged nozzles can be identified and other nozzles can compensate for it. The new software will be included in new machines and can be retrofitted to current US and Canada Spyder 320 printers at no charge.

Prices: Spyder 320-e, $325,000; Spyder 320+, $455,000 (6-color CMYKcm or CMYK+W). The Inca Spyder is distributed in the US by Fujifilm Sericol.
