Thomson Course Technology has released Digital Printing Start-Up Guide, by Harald Johnson. Adapted from Johnson's Mastering Digital Printing, Second Edition, this book is primarily aimed at the digital “newbie” to the intermediate user–it takes emerging imagemakers, photographers, and artists through the basics of digital photo printing.

The book is part over-view and part how-to. Its sections include: “Navigating the Digital Landscape” (why go digital, who's going digital, etc.); “Understanding Digital Printing,” “Comparing Digital Printing Technologies,” “Creating and Processing the Image,” “Understanding and Managing Color,” “Print Permanence,” “Selecting an Inkjet Printer,” “Choosing Consumables,” “Making a Great Inkjet Print,” and others.

Digital Printing Start-Up Guide comprises 276 pages, including a nice array of sidebars, charts, diagrams, and photos illustrating each concept that Johnson brings to the fore. Price: $24.99. (Thomson Course Technology: www.courseptr.com)
