David Servine Presented Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award

David Servine, a longtime sign and graphics industry veteran and leader in codes and regulations, was presented the Kirk L. Brimley Distinguished Service Award during ISA International Sign Expo 2016. Servine was recognized for his six decades in the industry, his advocacy and his service on ISA committees.

The International Sign Association presents the award each year to a leader who has made significant contributions to the sign and graphics industry.

Servine joined the sign industry in 1955, opening his own company. He later was employed by Tube Art, Heath Northwest, the National Sign Company and Channelume/Let-R-Edge. He has been a frequent instructor at ISA International Sign Expo, the sign and graphics industry’s leading event. He is an expert on the National Electric Code, having contributed significantly to the development of portions that affect sign professionals.

He has been a member of ISA subcommittees since 1992, serving as chair of the electrical subcommittee from 2010 to 2013 and of the mechanical and structural subcommittee from 2004-2006. At the state level, he was heavily involved in the Washington Electric Sign Association, serving as executive director from 1989-1992.

Servine’s publications are numerous as well. He wrote a landmark book on neon installation and has written numerous guidelines for industry use.

“David has been a constant, steady presence, representing the sign and graphics industry in National Electrical Code® and Underwriters Laboratories standards development,” said ISA Chairman of the Board Robert Mattatall, who presented the award to Servine. “Many of those who are on the frontlines installing our products may not know his name, but they certainly have benefited from his work.”
