Less than 6 weeks after the court injunction prohibiting the sale or shipping its Easy Apply Technology EZ Series Graphics Film products (a result of a copyright-infringement charge brought by 3M, see May issue, p 10), Avery Graphics had released a replacement product.

Its new Easy Apply product, says the company has the same performance features as the previous version, but has a slightly different liner construction. “Our newly constructed Easy Apply material has the same glossy, paint-like finish, as well as the repositionability that makes installation fast and easy,”? says Avery”?s Tiffany Witham. One difference installers might notice is that the initial tack is slightly higher”?in other words it holds a little bit more on first contact, but it still slides over the surface until pressure is applied. The Easy Apply products are still matched with Avery”?s DOL 1000 laminate.

The company also has entered the world of inkjet fabrics with the introduction of its Digital Fabric Media (DFM). Optimized for digital printing and compatible with solvent, mild-solvent, and UV-curable inksets, these fabrics are capable of photo-quality imaging, have been top-coated for digital printing, include ICC profiles, are supported by the Avery Graphics ICS Performance Guarantee Warranty, and come in 42-, 54-, and 64-in. rolls.

DFM fabrics all have a matte surface, offer a 6-month durability, and include:
“? DFM Cotton”?a 6.6-oz,100% cotton for use as interior signage for retail windows, wall hangings, curtains, and tradeshow graphics;
“? DFM Flag”?a 5.9-oz (10-mil) 100% rip-proof polyester for inside and outside use such as flags, signage, trade shows, wall hangings, curtains, and window displays;
“? DFM Heavy Banner”?a 7.1-oz (16-mil) 100% polyester for indoor and outdoor applications such as banners, promotional signage, and event signage; and
“? DFM Canvas”?an 8.3-oz (20-mil) bright white 65/35 polyester/cotton blend for indoor applications such as fine-art/photo reproductions, banners, indoor signage, wall hangings, and window graphics.

Avery also has introduced three new MPI products, for use with solvent, mild-solvent, and UV-curable inkjets. Available in 50-yard splice-free rolls, the new media include:
“? MPI 1800 Boat Wrap, featuring a permanent adhesive, which sticks to gel-coat and fiberglass surfaces, is for long-term marine/watercraft vehicle applications.
“? MPI 3101 Glossy Calendered Film, similar to MPI 3100, offers a removable adhesive with 100% opacity for blockout applications.
“? MPI Specialty Films are warranted for 3-yr outdoor durability and include Silver & White Ultra Metallic, White Pearlescent, and Etchmark.

Finally, Avery”?s 2006 Ink Jet Media Selector is now available through local distributors and directly from Avery.
