Agfa Graphics has sold Xitron, Inc., the Ann Arbor, MI-based developer and integrator of RIPs and software, to Vanguard Graphics International.

Vanguard Graphics International (VGI) is a privately held holding company specializing in acquiring and managing graphic-arts companies. It consists of Printware, LLC of St. Paul, Minnesota, Highwater Designs, Ltd of Cheltenham, England, and, now, Xitron, Inc.

'The acquisition of Xitron, along with our other portfolio companies, enhances our position as providers of ‘best of class’ solutions that our affiliates and customers can utilize to help them operate more efficiently and effectively,' says Stanley Goldberg, president and CEO of VGI. 'Xitron’s expertise in workflow, coupled with their recent entry into the short-run digital press market, reflects a strong complement to the technology, products and solutions offered by other VGI companies.'

Xitron manufactures flexible workflow systems and interfaces designed to drive the prepress industry’s new output devices as well as its legacy systems. The company's products include its Navigator RIP, Raster Blaster TIFF Catcher, and Xenith Workflow solutions, which are built around core technology from Global Graphics and Adobe Systems. Xitron was previously a part of the Agfa Graphics group of Agfa-Gevaert NV; Xitron was acquired by Agfa as part of the company’s Autologic acquisition at the end of 2001.
