The Best of Both Worlds

Few artists expect their work to end up in outer space. But one of London-based photographer Elaine Duigenan’s (elaineduigenan.com) pieces managed to achieve “zero g” late last year aboard the International Space Station. Duigenan, who captures beautiful patterns in nature, output the image from her “Micro Mundi” (Small World) series onto Hahnemühle Photo Rag with an HP Z3100 printer and HP Vivera inks. The art was flown via the Shuttle Atlantis to the Space Station, where it was then photographed by astronaut Leland Melvin as it floated in the weightlessness of space, in the window of the Destiny Lab, with the Earth below.
