WHEN MIKE DIAMOND of the Beastie Boys wanted to update the interior of his Brooklyn Brownstone in tribute to “all things Brooklyn,” he knew to turn to Brooklyn-based wallpaper company, Flavor Paper. Diamond was looking for a traditional French Country Toile aesthetic, but with a local flair, hidden in the pattern. “When you step to it, the pattern reveals elements and vignettes that make up the truth about Brooklyn,” says Jon Sherman, founder and creative director of Flavor Paper. “It captures many angles of life in the King’s borough, from Coney Island to Hasidic Jews to Notorious B.I.G.” Vincent J. Ficarra and Adela Qersaqi of Revolver New York, a creative agency and branding studio, paired with Flavor Paper to design and print the wallcovering, appropriately named Brooklyn Toile. “Due to the level of detail and shading in Vincent’s design, we decided to produce the Brooklyn Toile as a digital print,” says Sherman. An HP Latex 3600 printer was used to print onto Dreamscape Vinyl “due to the heavy traffic area and children. However, we traditionally offer this design as an EZ Papes wallpaper, meaning it’s a pre-trimmed, pre-pasted, water-activated pattern for an easy up/easy down installation – ideal for homeowners, renters, and commitment-phobes.”
