HP and Office Depot Team Up to Offer Free Recycling

If you've been waiting for an environmentally healthy and cost-efficient way to discard that old scanner, monitor, fax machine, or other electronics product that's gathering cobwebs in your shop's corner, here's one solution: Drop it off at your local Office Depot location and let them recycle it.

Office Depot has partnered with Hewlett-Packard (HP) to develop a free, nationwide, in-store electronics-recycling program. From July 18 through September 6, customers can drop off any brand of unwanted electronics at any of Office Depot's more than 850 retail locations in the continental United States. The products turned in will be hauled to HP facilities in Roseville, CA and Nashville, TN, where they will be recycled.

Qualifying products may be any brand, and include: PCs (as well as mice and keyboards), monitors and displays (not including those with broken glass), laser and inkjet printers, scanners and all-in-ones, digital cameras, fax machines, desktop copiers. For a complete list, visit the Office Depot website. Customers may bring one product per day per Office Depot location.

In 2003, HP recycled more than 102 million pounds of unwanted computer products globally. “This unique program with an important partner in the retail channel allows us to bring recycling capabilities directly to consumers in a remarkably easy-to-use way,” says Lee Ray Massey, senior vice president of HP's Imaging and Printing Group.
