Global Graphics released the latest version of its Harlequin RIP 8.0, which is OEM’d to a wide variety of manufacturers. The new release contains many enhancements, including native processing of PDF 1.7, in addition to native processing of PDF 1.0-1.6 and PostScript; the new version also includes native support for XPS and PDF/X-4, can now RIP HD photos, and is JDF 1.3-compatible.
Performance also makes a big gain, with support for multi-threaded rendering to take advantage of today’s multiple core processors like duo and quad-core technologies. Global Graphics has rewritten the RIP in such a way that PDF files retain raster data to significantly speed up variable-data processing. The Raster PDF output also facilitates soft proofing.
Harlequin RIP 8.0 comes in versions that support both Windows Vista and Mac OS-X 10.5 (Leopard). It also supports the new Pantone Goe libraries in addition to previous Pantone libraries. Previous capabilities that have been retained in the new product include font emulation, in-RIP color management, in-RIP color management, and in-RIP simple imposition.
The Harlequin RIP can be used cross-platform and in hybrid environments. The same RIP can be used for proofing, CtP, digital print, traditional offset print, and wide-format applications.
